About Master Roger Howe

Master Roger Howe began martial arts, namely Korean Tae Kwon Do. in February of 1988 and has been active in that martial art ever since. He is now a sixth degree black belt and is working on attaining a seventh degree. He has been teaching in Whitewright since spring of 1993 where he and another black belt formed The Martial Arts Center of Whitewright and has been the sole owner and master of that school since fall of 1998. The main ideals he stresses in his school are 1) Be Patient, 2) Be Polite, 3) Be Alert, 4) Be Brave, 5) Always do your best and 6) Respect for yourself and all others. He teaches to have confidence in yourself and to only use your martial art to defend yourself from attack. He has knowledge in other martial arts such as Hapkido and weapons. The weapons are staff, sai and sword. He also has been training in Chinese Tai Chi since 2018 and at this time teaches Qi Gong style of Tai Chi, which is a more meditative martial art. He is now training in Yang style Tai Chi and hopes to introduce that to the school in the near future. As for a personal history, he was born in Birmingham, Alabama in November of 1948, graduated high school in May 1966 and attended Purdue University, graduating there in May 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He then entered the U. S. Air Force and became a pilot, leaving the Air Force in October of 1976. He then started a career as a computer programmer and ultimately retired from that profession in March, 2017. He, with his wife and three children, moved to Whitewright in June of 1981 and he has lived here ever since.
